DATE Arrests 2 for Alcohol Smuggling
By Mellany Armstrong/Kelli Steele

A teenager is one of two young men nabbed for trying to smuggle liquor from Delaware to New York.

An agent from the Division of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement was doing a routine check Monday at South DuPont Liquors in New Castle when he saw two young men inside.

He checked their ID and found one was only 18. Agents say they were acting suspiciously and agents found they were from New York and were in Delaware to buy a large amount of alcoholic beverages to take back to New York to avoid state taxes. The agent also found more than $6,800 on the two young men.

The teen is charged with entering a package store under age 21. The other man, a 23-year-old, was charged with attempted illegal transportation of alcohol.
