3 DE City Firemen Injured When Fireboat Hits Jetty
By Mellany Armstrong/Kelli Steele

Three Delaware City firefighters were injured when their fireboat hit a jetty on the north side of the C&D canal this morning.

Fire officials say the three were on the boat just after midnight to help DNREC search for a missing vessel south of Artificial Island. The fireboat hit the rock jetty and immediately started sinking. The firefighters were thrown forward into the cabin console. The operator had an ankle injury, the second crew member had facial injuries and the third had cuts, hip and back injuries; they are at Christiana Hospital for treatment.

DNREC and the fire company are investigating. A salvage crew has been called in to retrieve the boat.
