House Fire Near Wilmington Displaces 12 People

A house fire near Wilmington has forced four adults and eight children out of their home and into an emergency shelter.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says the fire was reported early Saturday on Hammond Place in the Kirkwood Gardens area near Wilmington. A person driving by saw the house engulfed in flames and called 911.
Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
Authorities say 12 people were displaced by the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
Fire officials say the home had a smoke alarm, but it was not properly maintained did not operate.
