Delaware State Police are investigating the attempted robbery of a Wilmington gas station where a store clerk fought back.

Police say a man wearing a mask entered the BP gas station at 4001 Lancaster Pike in Wilmington just before 6 Monday night. The suspect indicated he was armed but didn't show a weapon, police said.

Police say when the suspect confronted the 32-year-old male store clerk and demanded money, the clerk fired a weapon at the suspect.

The suspect then fled from the store; it's not known whether he was shot or not. The store employee wasn't hurt.

Police say the suspect stands 5'6" to 5'8" tall and weighs approximately 220 to 230 pounds; he was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, dark sneakers, and had a mask covering his face.
