Gov. Markell Set to Sign Midwifery Bill
Governor Jack Markell will today (Tuesday) sign House Bill 70, relating to midwifery.
Joined by primary bill sponsor State Representative Paul Baumbach and bill co-sponsors State Representatives Ruth Briggs King, Tim Dukes, Harvey Kenton and David Wilson, the Governor will sign HB 70 into law at 1:30 p.m. in his Legislative Hall Office in Dover.
HB 70 creates the Midwifery Advisory Council that will promulgate rules and regulations, with the approval of the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, governing the practice of Midwifery.
House Bill 70 also creates licensure standards for Certified Professional Midwives and Certified Midwives. Importantly, this bill provides that minors who are treated by midwives are provided with the same safeguards when minors are treated by nurses, chiropractors and physical therapists.
