Same-day Voter Registration Proposed in Del.
Updated Thursday, June 11, 2015 - 3:00am
Same-day registration is getting support in the Delaware General Assembly, where some lawmakers are unveiling a bill that would allow you to register to vote and cast your ballot all in the same transaction on Election Day.
Supporters say this would help boost voter turnout, especially in mid-term and other off-year elections.
Current law requires Delaware voters to be registered more than three weeks before an Election Day - a deadline one of the co-sponsors of the bill says is "arbitrary."
Senator Margaret Rose Henry of Wilmington also proposes to eliminate a requirement that ex-offenders pay all of their fines and court costs before their right to vote is re-instated.
