A city councilwoman from Wilmington has put her hat into the ring for lieutenant governor of Delaware.

Sherry Dorsey Walker, a first-term council member, said on Tuesday that she will run for lieutenant governor next year. She joins a crowded field of five other candidates seeking the Democratic party’s nomination in 2016.

Dorsey Walker says she hopes to shake up the current political climate in Delaware, should she be elected.

Her platform is focused primarily on issues like criminal and environmental justice, job creation and education.
