A six-vehicle wreck on Route One north of Smyrna claims the life of a seven-year-old Wilmington boy and leaves numerous other people injured.

State Police say the accident happened in the northbound lanes late Monday night, as several drivers were slowing down for construction.

A truck driven by 28-year-old Bryan Hughes of Greenwood did not slow down and struck a total of five vehicles before coming to a stop.

Seven-year-old Bryan Kosc of Wilmington, who was in the first vehicle that was struck, was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital.

Five drivers were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Troopers say all of the drivers and passengers were wearing their seat belts.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
