Delaware's new voting machines

It was a late night counting votes, as the results were announced close to 11 p.m., and there was at least one major surprise in school board elections for New Castle County school districts.

That surprise was in Christina, where John Young, who was the incumbent, lost by over 500 votes to Catherine Hegedus. She has said she would not serve for family reasons. This means district residents can apply for the position, with the rest of the board making the choice.

Other winners included Robin Crossan and Rosemary Wolfe in Colonial, Deborah Zarek in Brandywine, and Norman Abrams in Appoquinimink where the incumbent won by two votes over Leland Kent.

The following results are still unofficial...

Colonial School District, Nominating District G are Robin A. Crossan 280; Tanya R. Kerns 137.

Colonial School District, Nominating District D are Christopher Piecuch 151; Rosemary Wolfe 184.

Christina School District, Nominating District D are Catherine S.R. Hegedus 1,013; (I) John M. Young 491.

Brandywine School District, Nominating District F are Jeanette Bailey 739; (I) Deborah T. Zarek 818.

Appoquinimink School Board Election: (I) Norman A. Abrams, Jr. 249; Laura B. Hummel 14; Leland R. Kent, Sr. 247; Dawn Lentz 12; George F. Maniatis 53; Keinna McKnight 31.
