Wilmington Police are trying to piece together the details of what led up to a vehicle smashing into the side of a downtown office building Saturday night, July 20, 2019.
The driver was critically injured and was airlifted from the scene. Reports indicate he may have been shot prior to the crash.
The vehicle ended up embedded in the wall of 500 Delaware Avenue, the building that is the headquarters for Wilmington Savings Fund Society (WSFS).
The collision brought down a wall panel on the side that houses the Pure Bread Deli but officials say the damage was more cosmetic and not structural.
The vehicle is believed to have come down 11th Street from Adams Street before leaving the roadway at the triangle intersection of 11th and Jefferson streets at Delaware Avenue.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
