Former Wesley All-American quarterback Joe Callahan and Delaware wide receiver Vinny Papale are among the players available in the 70-round XFL Draft to be held next week.
Callahan has bounced around several NFL teams in his three years since graduating from Wesley, most notably playing about a half for the Green Bay Packers in their final game of the 2017 season.
He's also been on the rosters of the Browns, Saints, Eagles, Buccaneers, and Ravens.
Most recently, Callahan had a workout with the Tennessee Titans at the start of October.
Papale will simply be looking for another opportunity after he couldn't make the Oakland Raiders after being signed as a rookie free agent after the NFL Draft.
Callahan and Papale had their names revealed on the first and second day of a week-long process of announcing the eligible players for the draft. There's still a possibility more local names will surface.
The XFL Draft will be held on Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16.
The eight teams will select 70 players each from a pool of about 1,000 professional football players, along with having a quarterback assigned prior to the draft.
- Skill Positions (QB, RB, WR, TE)
- Offensive Line (OT, OG, OC)
- Defensive Front Seven (DL, LB)
- Defensive Backfield (CB, Nickel, SS, FS)
- Open Draft (All remaining players, including P/K/LS)
The XFL, run in part by World Wrestling Entertainment President Vince McMahon, is scheduled to begin play in February 2020.
